Welcome to Y3/4. We have three Year 3/4 classes, Beech, and Elm and Silver Birch. These classes will work very closely together throughout the year and share many activities. To start with we will also build the identity of each class to help the children from both year groups bond and belong. We aim to develop a stronger sense of independence with a clear view on making positive choices so that Y3/4 is a time filled with both enjoyment and challenge. As the Y3 children make the transition from Year 2 to Year 3 and Key Stage 1 to Key Stage 2, we hope that the curriculum newsletter and this webpage will help you to support your child in settling into a new class and new routines. The Y4 will be given the opportunity to share their expertise and become peer support buddies for the new Y3.
We will be creating strong links between the three classes and will have lots of opportunities to work together each week. We will be covering the same topics together, these topics are on a two year rolling programme so that when your Y3 child starts as Y4 they will have new experiences to develop.
Throughout the year there will be many opportunities for you to participate in school life and we are always grateful for your help, without which some of our school activities would not be possible. Please let us know if you are able to come in and hear readers, support the learning of spellings or play maths games with small groups of children.
We will be swimming this year, so we will be asking for volunteers to help walk the class to the Westgate Centre and back again. The more volunteers we have then the fewer sessions any one person needs to do, so please consider if you will be able to help with this.
Swimming takes place on Friday mornings from 9.30 – 11.00 approx. starting a class at a time from the Spring term.
PLEASE take time this holiday to make sure children can get dry and changed themselves. They are NOT to be using the hair dryers at the swimming pool and we advise they wear a swimming hat and also bring a woolly hat to wear outside.
Silver Birch will go Friday mornings 12th May until 23rd June - parent volunteers needed please.
